Hello everyone. I am transfering my boys to a divided ten gallon. My husband has gotten me a bigger community tank for my birthday so I will be using the old one for my boys W and Joey. (Ziggy me new crowntail died on friday, after I had him for five days) . I am having problems finding a divider appropriate for betta's. All I can find is clear ones, which I am thinking might be ok if I plant tall plants on either side so they cannot see each other, but considering I have the smartest Betta's ever this will not work. I know someone posted a DIY divider on here with plastic canvas etc but I can't find that post anywhere. I want to upgrade my boys soooooooo badly. Also what kind of plants should I plant for them? I was thinking Java Ferns. So many questions soooooooooo little time. I know!

Make your own out of colored Plexiglas cut to the size you need or get some craft plastic canvas and make one or better yet some perforated PVC sheet or something like it at the lumber yard and have it cut to the size you need then get some of the report covers that have the slide on plastic pieces to hold the papers in and cover the edges with them to cover any sharp edges and you have it made. The only thing about using solid plexiglas is the need for two heaters (25 watt on each side) and a sponge filter on each side to keep up the adequate filteration. If you have something like perforated plastic of some kind the water can get through and the need for an extra heater and filters is taken care of. The fish can see shadows through the perforated plastic and may flare for a day or so but will quit in a bit and go about their business. I have clear Plexiglas in my 25 gallon and they do flare but I also keep a shade of plastic canvas so I can block it if they get too naughty. But they also have to have the extra heaters and filters and I am going to make a new one of perforated PVC material as I already have it and just need to cut it. I too am so sorry to hear about Ziggy's passing. You went out of your way to save him and I am sure that he had a much better life during his last days. You should be so proud of yourself. Perhaps you will find another when the time is right and you have your tanks ready. You have my deepest sympathies.
