Betta Question

Hello, I'm new to fish and I was wondering if it would be possible to put a male Betta into a tank with Danio's and Harlequin Rasbora's... or would the Betta attack these fish?

Thanks!

In my opinion, the Betta would be the one in danger. Bettas like to swim slower, explore alot, fluff their fins, and just like to flaunt their stuff. Their fins are a big attraction to alot of other types of fish. Danios are a spazzy kind of fish, they are happy when in a school size group, too. So, you can overpopulate a tank if you add alot of them. Bettas are a gentle fish overall, just not to other Bettas. If you really want one, please, please,do some reading up on them here in the forum, you will get great info...

Oh, and to clairify, both the Danio's and Rasbora's would be in schools of 6.

That's great for the right size tank, but again...Bettas are plenty happy being by themselves, and if you have them with a bunch of fast swimming fish, they can stress out and get sick. What size tank do you have/plan on getting? And you say you are new to fish, so if you want to have a good start, please use the ton of info here at the forum before you begin and things will get to a better start for you...and your fish So, read read read read, everything you can.

If I understand all that i have read about Male Bettas correctly they are almost always the one who gets the beating up on instead of the opposite. They are like said above slow moving. You are best w/ putting Bettas by themselves. There are alot of fish that go w/ the ones you have mentioned and they are beautiful fish! If you are looking for fancy community type, fancy tail male guppies are beautiful also! I have a red male fancy tale (hes my prized fish!) and a orange cobra fancy tail, a moscow blue, a turquoise blue, and one of my babies is a type of yellow and black fancy tail... they are so beautiful and graceful to watch. You can have a tank w/ just boys if you don't want to mate them.

Hi!

No. The male Betta would get beaten up - they cannot flee from fish like that!

Just to clarify a bit. Danios are not compatible tank mates for bettas as they do tend to be aggressive. Rasboras may be okay but do need to school in some instances and unless you have a very big tank will be a problem to have enough of them to make everyone happy.

Welcome to Fishlore.

I wouldn't recommend either of those with Bettas. Bettas tend to not be good community fish and are best on their own.
