Adding warm water to fishy tank?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if on cold days you could add a little warm water to your Betta's tank to warm him up. Would this be safe?
Thankyou!

Hello there
Bettas are a tropical fish and really do need a heater. Unless you live in a part of the world where its warm most of the time. its the fluctuation of temperatures that is not good for them or any tropical fish.

You shouldn't add water to the tank that has a significant difference in temp from the tank water, since this can shock the fish. If the water's getting too cool then you need to have a heater...if you do have one and it's still too cold, then either you need a different brand of heater or a higher wattage. How big is his tank?

My Betta, Don Corleone, (lol!) is living by himself in a 5.7 litre tank. (not sure how big that is in gallons, but it is significantly bigger than those eenie - bitty cups in the pet store).
I live in Australia, so it's never very cold, and the tank is a roomy size but not so big the water gets very cold. Most of the time the water is room temperature to warm.
I went to the pet store today to find a heater, but the only one they had that was the right size for my fishe's tank was quite expensive. I won't hesitate to get it if there is no other way, but have any of you been able succesfully put a Betta in a tatnk with no filter, and the fish has lived a long happy life?
I'll post pictures of my tank and Don Corleone soon, when I remember to charge the battery of my dads camera!

It's recommended to have at least 10 liters for a male Betta along with filtration and a heater. The aim is to provide steady water conditions as fluctuations and cold water are both causes of tropical fish illnesses. A small filter and 25 watt heater are sufficient for a tank of 10 liters.

We've seen with our Bettas that they show more personality and interaction when they have more room. We've recently been moving Bettas that had tanks of about 10 liters into tanks of about 27 liters. Each has shown a noticeable difference in their behavior and we like having more room for their 'toys'.

HI Aussie mate. Hi from the UK. My smallest betta tank is a 19.5 ltr and i think it is too small so it is my stepping stone tank. Buy them, they stay in this until a larger one is set up.

I have one with just an airstone and heater at the moment, he is ok but not a long term solution.

Can you get a good 'tropical' tank package deal? They are usually 20/25 litre ones with filter and heater......................look out for them, usually cheaper than buying heater etc alone

PICS ASAP too !! x

In Australia you can pick up cheap heaters or tank sets from wholesalers on ebay.
