I can't believe it, but 3 cheers for Walmart

I never thought I would be the one to say it..but at least out local Walmart deserves a thumbs up!

Today being fish day, I went in to see bettas. I noticed each cup, which is about the size of a small cottage cheese container, had a sticker on it that said this:

"Feed betta once per day, as much as it will eat in 30 seconds. Remove all uneaten food. Change 1/3 water at least once a week, always using dechlorinated water".

Wow, that is more than most lfs people even know . I am writing a letter to the manager, thanking Walmart for this progressive move. Gotta start somewhere.

Neat hey??

Hooray!

Any step in the right direction, no matter how small, is great progress.

Kate, there were a lot of females in with the tetras. But they were all just tiny little mites ( like the ones I tried to rescue a while back) and they all had finrot. Poor babies. I bet if I check on Sat or Sun they will all be dead.

I think if I decide on a female in the future, I will ask my good fish guy down in Minnesota to bring one in with his order.

Meanwhile I will just enjoy my little rescue guy.

Wow.. that's better than a lot of fish-only stores.. Wal-mart is a really smart business entity. By adding that they please more fish hobbyists without annoying the... other... customers in the least, so why not add it. Smart business move.

It makes me wonder if that WalMart got a new person in the department who is or has been a fish keeper and might yet succeed in keeping the bettas in community tanks soon? we could sure hope fot it!

Wow, that's incredible for a walmart! Just today I was there buying lights and the guy told me that bettas are nocturnal so they don't like light.

Who is this? I live in MN, wondering if we get fish at the same place.

True, it's a step in the direction of giving good information instead of bad.

That is very impressive! Let's hope this trend continues with other stores.

Hi Val,
I saw this post before I read about your new lil guy!( aww he is a cutie pie for sure.) Its really too bad that most chain stores carry sick and weak fish. IMO finding a great fish store or supplier is like finding a chunk of gold! lol..
You will have your new guy to enjoy.. and how could you resist?

Hope hes doing well.

My walmart in TX had stopped carrying fish before I moved, too. My closest walmart here in FL does still carry them, tho. Seems like I heard somewhere that all the stores were going to stop carrying fish, but I don't remember where I saw/heard that. It may be that the next time the store goes through a remodel they will do away with the live fish section.
