| Do betta fins grow back if they are ragged? I noticed at the fish store a lot of bettas look like their fins are falling apart because of lack of care maybe. Do they grow back if you care for them well? Or should I buy them with the fins looking nice already? Thank you! |

| They will grow back to a certain degree.
They do not grow back as well in older fish. |

| Is there any way to tell the age of the fish before you buy it?
Thanks! |

| Most fish you find inthe shops are under 6 months of age.
This is not old for a betta. |

| Please do not get impatient though. They need a good protein food like bloodworms or daphnia and vitamins and the fins will take a while to regenerate. It does not happen quickly, but will happen as Dino says to some degree. Sometimes they are quite beautiful when they regenerate.

| Daily adding the recommended amount of a product called Fish Protector and daily adding 1 drop per gallon of a product called VitaChem gives them a boost in healing fins. Garlic Guard or Garlic Boost can help too, but those first 2 products we absolutely love for our bettas.
I'm attaching pics of our Betta, Sweetie. When we got her on May 18, she had lost one of her pectoral fins and had a lot of missing scales on the side not in the picture, plus the damage to her other fins, especially her anal fin. (She had deep stress lines, but because of the flash on the scales you can't see that in the picture.)
The 2nd & 3rd pictures are on June 21. Her fins are even more now, but she regrew that much finnage plus the scales in just over a month, with daily additions of vitachem and keeping her tank clean. |

| Wow, Alasse, you really got him back off the brink. I could not save my betta from such advanced finrot a while back. Amazing recovery. Great news. |

| Fin rot didn't do that to him, tiger barbs and zebra danios did that. He was only in the main tank for a bit under 2 weeks. |
