Can I put a betta with a zebra danio?

Is it ok to put a betta with a zebra danio? And do bettas eat live plants? Thank you!

It would be very rare occurance for a betta and any danio to get along well at all. All known danio are schooling fish also, so they prefer to be in groups of 5-6 or more. Bettas would do fine with Kuhlia loaches, in my opinion. (we have a 55g with both of those in it and have not had a problem for the 6 months or more they've been together.) Kuhli loaches do prefer groups, but it is not as detrimental to their health to not have the groups, as it is with schooling fish. I would describe Kuhli loaches as sociable semi-pack fish. They tend to hang out together at some times, but also wander off on their own a lot.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

It will be 10 gallons. It will be my first with live plants. I want to have live plants, a betta, 1 or 2 khuli loaches, 1 or 2 otto catfish. I am wondering if I should have sand or gravel on the bottom.
Also I am scoping out other fish that will work well with these.

You'll really need to have a contingency plan for that betta in case he doesn't get on with these fish.

Agree. Get a divider, so if he attacks the other fish you can divide the tank and maybe give him 1/3 of it.

I think the Betta and a few otos would be good, but Kuhlis really would be happier in a larger tank. They get to about 5" and can really zip around the tank. If you wanted all 3 species in the 10g, 1 of each would be the only way to get under the bioload of 10", but I honestly feel like the Kuhli would feel cramped.
