I am soooo happy right now. I messed up the other day and broke a mercury thermometer in our hospital tank. It was just a plastic 4G that we'd gotten for free, but basically I didn't trust it anymore. There was no emergency in finding a solution until our newest puffer (the hog-nose) fell ill. So I've decided that instead of buying another small tank as a hospital tank, I'd use one of my
betta tanks as a hospital tank, and I'd buy a larger tank. So here's what I did:
Platys in the 10G tank went into my new 12G tank.
Female betta in the 6G tank went into the 10G tank.
Female betta in the 5G tank went into 6G tank.
The girls were soooo happy exploring. It's so nice to see the one in the 10G actually able to dart at full speed for more than a couple of strokes.
I got myself happy girls, people, very happy girls! The great thing is: while the platys and corys in the platy tank totally freaked out at the move, the betta girls didn't even struggle. They were immediately like: 'hey, I like this! Let's explore some'
And the even greater news is that my corys are finally in a tank without sharp substrate. I've used the fake sand (tiny round beads, better for bacteria than real sand) so they don't hurt their barbels on the sharp gravel anymore.
