Well like the rest of you my sorority Betta tank has failed. So hoping it wouldn't.
Lily the white one suddenly got this huge tumor looking thing under her mouth...then Holly beat the crap out of her the other night. Lily died in the sick tank the next day. So between the tumor and the beating she died.
Now Holly is constantly chasing Jewel...who has a small nip on her anal fin now. Jewel has a hiding spot and has been in it since yesterday. I guess I have to divide the tank today.
2 months and failure. It was going fine until Lily got that huge lumpy looking "throat". I guess illness can ruin harmony too.
So if anyone is thinking that a sorority Betta sp. is a good idea...don't waste your time or your Betta sp. Any little thing even illness can rock the boat.

Well I just divided them in our 10g bedroom tank...Jasper is in the living room now.
Good thing I check them out early today...Jewel was very stressed out and hiding.

So sorry to hear this. I'm sure it's very distressing to you and your girlies.

I thought of a sorority tank, but after hearing so many horror stories, I ditched the idea.

I see girls kept in the same tanks in stores, sometimes with one male in there with them,not a nice sight 'Stress Bars 'R' US'!!!!

Share your knowledge with all. Such a shame we can't have Betta only tanks!!!

Yet some of us still tried. They are the one fish I have trouble keeping...except male angelfish (but that is another rant altogether, lol)
I have had 5 males and 6 females since I've started keeping fish....4 of my males died one b/c of 1 disease or another...same with two of my females. Once my last 3 fishies pass on...I think I'm staying away from betta for awhile. I obviously am jinxed when it comes to betta anyhow.

Sorry to hear it didn't work our but at least they are doing fine now that they're separated. Bettas definately can be hard to keep alive. They are treated so horribly by breeders and stores and come home carrying all sorts of nasty diseases.

And I am glad that you are sharing it with us, so that others can learn that it really does happen, even after weeks of success. It's such a shame as it's such a dream tank to have several females sharing.

It's a shame it had to end in death, rather than a warning period when things get gradually worse. I am sorry you didn't get to save her.
