Bubblenest? huh?

Sorry I keep making new threads,i just dont know
where to post!

I have a new Betta other then bucky (my purple male betta),
my new betta is red,its a male and his name is Thaqib,Its an Arabic name
It means "Shooting Star",He lives in a regular Fish bowl and i Noticed
Hes making Bubblenest, & im wondering wot do they really mean?
Cause ive heard it means that they are happy or that they are comftarble or that they want to breed or that there just showing you love so im not sure?

Ill take pics and post them soon of both Thaqib & Bucky Haze.

Thanks

you are right about the bubblenests...sometimes weather can cause them so start a bubblenest
when males are introduced to a female that is attractive to him, they will build a bubblenest to impress the female and tempt her...if you know what i mean
...but please don't try to breed them, as they require watching 24/7, tons of care, and equipment

yea, some bettas just like to build them, some don't and weather or seeing another male betta (even their reflection) can sometimes inspire them to build one. sometimes they don't even have a reason you can figure out, they just build a bubble nest.

Yeah it's definately an individual thing...some males are always building them, some never do, others only do it when something "triggers" them to...it's not something to be concerned about.

I'm not saying you don't take good care of your fish, but Bettas aren't happy without heated and filtered water. They like their water 80 degrees and if it gets too low they are a lot more susceptible to disease or may become lethargic. And even if you do a water change every day, there will still be ammonia in the water if there isn't a filter. Bettas can survive in a bowl but they are a lot healthier and happier in a heated and filtered tank. Think about getting a bigger tank for your Betta, even just 2.5-3gals if you can't afford anything bigger.

I'd 2nd the recommendation to put him in a small tank with a filter and air stone. The filter and air stone are really a good thing for almost any kind of fish, including anabantoids like Bettas.

You may not need a heater where you're at, but if the water goes below 78, you'd want a heater. Lower temps are uncomfortable to the Bettas and make them more at risk of disease.

We have 3 male Betta Splendens now and none of them care about building nests. Only our first Betta was really into building bubble nests.
