Anyone know what this girl is?
Got this TINY little girl at Walmart. She was near death from ammonia poisoning so I thought her stripes were from stress.
Now a month later, she's very lively, happy and has voracious appetite and is still striped. She obviously isn't Splendens. Any ideas?
Here she is before and after.

Yes, she's very cheeky and pushy and wants her bloodworms on time!

I have no idea, but she's really awesome looking. That's so great you rescued her from Deathmart.

The stripes are due to stress.

She is a Betta Splendens. When we got Sweetie in real bad shape, it took her a long time to lose her stress lines, longer than it took her fins to regrow.

Really? I thought stress stripes would come and go quickly. You learn something new every day when it comes to fishkeeping! I love that about this hobby.

When I got her and for about a week afterwards, I thought they were stress stripes too.
BUT, after a month, they never change or fade in any way or at any time. She is now the picture of health and happiness and is loving her new 2.5 gal tank and attacks the BW syringe with glee and the stripes have not changed one bit.
This is what makes me think they are permanent markings.

i'd ask Rose to be sure, she'd be the first female splendens i've seen with permanent lines.

I took a reading of the ammonia in her cup when I brought her home. We know it's WAAAAY too hard to change 4 oz of water every day!
Here is what the bettas at Walmart live in. (I'd probably be permanently striped too!)

that's so ridiculous! that's why i have a hard time going over to look at them.. it's such a temptation to take them all home. even if they had to live in cups, at least the water would be clean and i haven't had ammonia that high even when cycling a tank fishless!

I swear I"m never going there again, even to get good deals on other things. When I'm shopping, I can't help thinking of these poor creatures being abused just yards away from me.
I know that even I take them all, there will soon be another batch to take their place.

yea, sadly the production never stops and the stores continue to treat them like worthless stock. we hope one day to have a Betta shop where they can be treated properly and customers can buy healthy & happy Bettas.

That's horrible the ammonia was so high...it's a miracle the poor girl is still alive!
