Went to Petco the other day and was disgusted/extremely saddened by all the DEAD bettas on display, and the ones that were almost there. Who can I call to complain about this that might actually listen to me? Obviously, the store itself does not care If anyone has ever lobbied on behalf of bettas and gotten somewhere, PLEASE let me know what you did to see if I can get similar results here. Thanks!

Is there some sort of Trading Standards council where you are? (Sorry, I don't know where you live...) They're usually fairly helpful, which is more than can be said about your LFS by the looks of it.
Otherwise, animal protection?

You could always try writing a very formal sounding letter to the manager of the store and see how that works out.

Complain to the store manager and then ask for the home office number or the phone number for their complaints dept.

Complaining on humanitarian reasons will get you nowhere.

They care only for money, so you can inform them (either the manager of this store, or a head office) that neither you, your family nor anyone you know will spend a dime there until the animal abuse stops.

Right. Do up a thoughtful and civil letter outlining your complaints. I know it's tough to be civil in these circumstances, but anything that is angry or abusive will be ignored.

Ask for the Number of the RCAC (Regional Companion Animal Coordinator). The sole purpose of this guy is to travel around a district/region and inspect each store to ensure care P&P is being followed. Stores and the people working in them get into some serious trouble if one of these guys come in and sees bad animal care.

I am a Manager at a Petco and this is defineately the guy you wanna talk to. If he is worth a then he will at least listen.

In fact, shoot me a PM with the city you live in and I'll see if I can find the info for the guy you need.

i'd like to be that guy.. i'd have had the manager at the st.augustine store booted ages ago for the fish conditions there, especially the bettas. one of their tricks at that store was to shove the dying bettas way in the back, but i could always find dead ones and plenty of sick ones.

i hope you have good luck with reporting the Petco that you went to. If we were still in St. Augustine, I'd be calling in that store now that i know someone to go to that won't completely ignore my complaints.
