Tank question

Hello everyone, this is my first post here so here goes:
I bought a pretty blue betta in 3.5 gallon fishbowl about a week ago. But I just found out I have a 10 gallon in the garage (unused). Should I move Aqua into the 10 gallon or leave him be? He seems very happy in his 3.5 gallon, he is swimming around and darting through the plants etc.He did something strange the other day though,he blew a bunch of bubbles on the surface that looks like white foam. Is there anything wrong with him? Or is this just normal betta behaviour?
Thanks,
Irene

Male betas build bubble nests for females to lay eggs in. mine does the same thing. i would leave him be for the time being and set up the 10 gallon tank anyways. Get it cycled and then put something cool in it

welcome to fishlore!

if the fishbowl isn't cycled, it should be alright to transfer him (along with any substrata, decorations, filter media, etc) to the 10g. I'd recommend finding a product called Prime at your LFS to treat the tap water with. One of those empty plastic travel squeeze bottles for shampoo, etc at a store like walmart is a great way to measure it out by drops - we do 1 drop per gallon.

check this link if you've not already: http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm for more info on the cycling.

do you have a heater for him? they like the water around 78-82.. although i think you're heading into warmer weather now so i don't know how much of an issue a heater would be.

Bubbles mean your fish is happy. Do read that article. If you want to change him its up to you, just make sure to cycle the new tank first. Or cycle it and get more fish!

I would say cycle and get more fish.

I have been researching bettas, to help my girlfriend with her betta breeding. Most things I found suggest a divided 10 gallon tank or a smaller tank for bettas. Male bettas, like most fish, feel the need to patrol their homeland. With a bigger tank, a long finned fish like a betta can get stressed out and tired. Exhausted fish are easier targets for diseases and ailments.

As an example, I kept some guppies in a 55 gallon awhile ago. They kept dying on me. Recently, I decided to try guppies again...I REALLY want them. So, I got some smaller tanks. I have 6 in 2 5 gallon tanks. So far, they seem happy and healthy. There's less water for the males to patrol, so they don't tire themselves out.

A 10 gallon tank is fine for a Betta. They do not get exhausted. They do not like deep water but a 10g is only 12 inches deep and that is fine. I would cycle the 10g and put the Betta in it. I've kept male Bettas in 10g tanks and they loved it! You can decorate with lots of live plants and smooth ornaments he can swim through. They love to explore.

that's very true.. they can get into trouble with their curiousity.. they love to squeeze into tight spots so you want to be sure to get betta safe decorations.. smooth like Phlox said, inside and out and with no really small holes that might be just big enough for a betta to get stuck in. bridges are great and a lot of bettas love bubbles.
