| Re: What does fungal fin rot look like? Hi Ricktavious
If you wanted to know how to tell, say on a betta, I can suggest you look at the ends of the fins. Are they ragged, uneven? Split? Have they lost color at the tips and appear to be a filmy wispy kind of see through?
If I knew how to insert a photo, I have one to show you for comparison..
any suggestions on how to do this by anyone?
Thanks, kate |

| Re: What does fungal fin rot look like? On Ricktavious' top fin, it's gotten a bit transparent in one part, plus the tips are turning white. But nothing is going away. Does this sound like something Kordon Rid-fungus (or whatever it's called) could help? |

| Re: What does fungal fin rot look like? Hi there,
well... it does sound like the beginning of fin rot on your betta. I've never used that Kordon product so can't tell you whether that works or not. But I do use the Jungle Lab fungus clear and have been using that on my betta, Glory. He seems to be doing much better but it has taken about a month for me to see the improvement. Im sure if you use the Kordon product, its probably the same type of med anyway, it should be fine. I hear good things about the Kordon products, but havent tried this one yet. Its a good thing to catch the fin rot in its early stages and keep the water in pristine condition and make sure to do the partial water change before the next dose is given. You can turn down the flow of the filter and keep his decorations and gravel clean while you are medicating him, and be sure to take out any activated carbon if you are using that now, while you medicate him. His chances of a speedy recovery are within reach by taking care of that fin rot as soon as you notice it. Im glad that you did...
Good luck with ricktavious...

hope it helps.. ( you can double click on the photo and it will enlarge it, sorry its a little dark tho, but you can still see what Im talking about..)

| Yep, the white parts got a little larger, so got him medicated starting today. What's up with the green that the API Fungus Cure does to the water? Haha! He doesn't seem to mind it though.
Oh, is this like the bacterial fin rot medications where he generally goes through two cycles of the meds, then see how it looks afterwards?
Also, I've still been giving him anti-bacterial meds since his last fin rot bout a few weeks ago. Is it safe to continue to give him that while on the fungus meds? |

| yes, the fungus clear does make the water green. guess it doesnt bother the fish tho, my guy never seemed to mind it either. I use the jungle lab fungus clear, must be the same product since it turns the water green too.
I have been medicating Glory for over a month now and he has had about 5 doses so far, maybe more. Before every new dose I change his water. I would just follow the directions on the API box it may be different that the jungle labs directions. I'm not sure that its a good idea to mix the two meds. You should try one or the other for awhile, and if your going to switch meds, do a good water change first.
But Im sure that if you keep up with it, he will get better. It takes awhile for the fin rot to go away.
good luck with ricktavious!

| If the anti-bacterial meds are the pellets made by Jungle Labs then yes, you can continue. It is safe to use with other meds. Anything you put into the water (powder or liquid) shouldn't be mixed though without checking with both companies that make the products.
If you've been using the medicated pellets for a long time, just feed him those once a day and his regular food for his other feedings. I did that with Rocky after having him on it for a few weeks. I wanted to make sure he was getting all the nutrition he needs, especially protein to help grow new fin tissue. Soak his food once a day in vitamins if you have them. Vitamins make such a HUGE difference. Rocky grew back all of his lost tail (he lost half his tail) in a week just with daily vitamins and high protein cyclop-eeze food (which also helped him gain back his vivid red color in the regrowth) |

| So I can't tell if it's getting better, or worse. The parts that were white, top fin and pelvic fin tips, are getting thinner (looks like hair width). However, it does not appear to be spreading to any other parts. If it has gone further down the fins that it's affecting, it's been very little. He's only been on meds for two days. Does it sound like he's heading in the right direction to you? |

| Patience is the key to fishkeeping! Two days is not enough time to notice a change in your fish. Keep up with the clean water changes.. and the meds and hopefully you will start to notice a change after a few doses. The change you hope to see is that the fin rot doesnt spread... before it starts to heal. Change the water only when the next dose is required. So that you do not take the meds out of the water before that.

| That's how the finrot of my crowntail started, although it was very dark brown, not black. Is there a small chanced that your fish is developing his definite colour pattern and that that happens to be black-lined? One of my females has that. |

| Does the Fungus Cure stress out bettas? After a few days on this, Ricktavoius hasn't been himself. Very lethargic. Is it safe to keep using, or should I discontinue? |

| fungus cure shouldn't be overly stressful, but i think like a lot of meds, it can make them a little more tired. |
