I found out today that she was really a he. He was a cambodian plakat male. I am kind of upset that Ruby was really a baby boy, but there isn't much I could do now.

There was a male betta that looked exactly like Ruby did at the auction yesterday.

Where did you purchase him? Was he advertised as a female? Plakats are so close in appearance to females and the Cambodians are ferocious with other fish so this may be a fish that you will not want to put with other fish at all. Please be cautious. The only other Cambodian that I owned killed every other fish I put in with it. They are real fighters.

I will, I put him in a 2-3gallon jar with a small heater and an air stone. He has some floating plants and some gravel and thats all I am putting in with him.

I'm confused... I thought you said Ruby passed away? I had another look at her pic and Ruby is indeed a female. Plakats have a different tail shape and even a slightly different body shape. You wouldn't find Plakats mixed in with regular Bettas in a pet store.
Are you talking about another fish you have recently bought? Can you post a pic?

I am confused now. Ruby did pass away and Ruby just looks like the male plakat but I don't know anymore. Could you incldude some pics of the difference between the male and female so I can see the difference?
