Twice a day very very small amounts. Both Veggie and tropical fish flake, some people suggest part of a pea to reduce change of constipation... but I say that is like taking a swig of pepto-bismol when your stomach doesn't hurt..

Re: beta noob feeding

I think shrimp pellets are too big and too rich. The best is Hikari betta Bio-Gold pellets. I feed one pellet soaked in either vitamins or Garlic Guard, 3 times a day. You can feed 2 pellets, 3 times a day if he is a large Betta. I feed a tiny (size of half his eye) piece of pea twice a week as a treat BETWEEN his regular meals.

Re: beta noob feeding

I feed my Betta's 3x's a day, around 6am, at 3pm and then around 9pm. I give them the HBH betta bites, which are the micro-pellets. I put around 6 pellets in the larger males tank, but they probably only catch around 4-5 of them. The females get around 4 pellets. I started to share the frozen baby brine shrimp that I feed to the angels and discus at the 9pm feeding to the bettas. Now they are spoiled and wait for that meal. They kind of stick their nose up to the pellets now, they would much rather have the brine shrimp.

Re: beta noob feeding

we like to feed our bettas when we eat breakfast and when we eat dinner. they get thawed frozen bloodworms, tiny pieces of thawed, frozen, peeled peas or Betta Pro pellets. 2-3 pieces of whichever food each feeding. We fast them on Sundays.

Re: beta noob feeding

Great! Just make sure he gets a variety of foods and bloodworms only about twice a week. Too much of that and he can become constipated. Make sure he gets two small pieces (the size of half his eye) of thawed frozen (not fresh or canned) green pea with the skin removed about twice a week between meals. He should stay healthy with a variety of good quality foods in very small amounts.

Re: beta noob feeding

yes, even though baby bettas (slightly after fry) do grow up on shrimp (baby brine shrimp) they should not have shrimp more than one time a week as it is rich and does not include a lot of things that bigger bettas need to have for complete nutrition. They need some foods like Betta Bio-gold pellets and freeze dried blood worms or freeze dried daphnia (only a couple times a week) or even Atison's Betta formula if your betta is over 6 months old or Atison's Betta Pro if he is under 6 months old. All these things need to be soaked before feeding in either Garlic Guard or VitaChem or tank water to avoid constipation. The Garlic Guard and VitaChem will provide additional nutrition and the tank water will not so you have your choice. Neither product will cost much and can help to prevent or treat disease.
