Is daphnia difficult for bettas to eat?

Both of mine seem to go after it and enjoy it, but they both put it in their mouths, spit out, put back in, spit back out.......or is this just the way they normally eat it, or could they just be playing with their food

Re: Is daphnia difficult for bettas to eat?

It could be that they're trying to find the right angle so that they can swallow it. When I was feeding my fish peas this past weekend, I accidentally dropped a half that was only partly broken, so it was one long piece, into the koi/goldfish tank. Miyamoto, the koi, could get the thing into his mouth, but he kept trying to swallow it sideways, and would spit it out only to suck it up again. When he finally got it into his mouth the right way, it disappeared for good.

yea, daphnia is pretty easy for them to eat being so soft, but some pieces just are bigger like that.
