| Gypsy's not happy (update) She is in the divided tank with Precious on the other side. Gypsy is hanging out on the bottom and only goes up for air. Its strange that when I look at her, I see sad eyes. Could she have really been more happy in the 29g community tank with the tiger barbs, black neons, long fin black skirts and serpae tetras? I took her out, and put her with Precious yesterday but she really appears to be depressed. Is it possible? Or could she be sick? Her tummy looks awfully big, can she be constipated? I gave her half a pea in her tankside, but she hasnt touched it. Its possible that I may have over fed her? Any suggestions?
Thanks, kate |

| Re: Gypsy's not happy :-( one of ours is acting like that & we're hoping it's constipation too. today was a fasting day & we'll try peas tom. she might be too constipated for peas.. daphnia or garlic might inspire eating, but if she's constipated a day or 2 of fasting could help. how about her scales on the sides? how do they look? |

Well Im sad to say that Gypsy didnt make it through the nite. She is my first betta loss. After examining her I can see that her stomach was really bloated and some pressure around her anal area. Either she was constipated or had a growth of some kind. I hope that it wasnt something contagious that I have to worry about Precious now since she shared the tank with Gypsy. I took out the divider and gave Precious free rein again.... But I will get another female when I go to the LFS next time...
What a shame.. she really was a beauty, very different than the others that I have seen with her many layers of colors, but she was such a teeny tiny thing. I will miss her. On another note, I'm relieved that I didnt loose her while my great neice was visiting or that i didnt let Gypsy go home with GypsyGirl. I think that if she lost Gypsy while in her care it may have turned her off to fishkeeping. She is so excited about going out with her mom today to pick out her own Betta. |

| Re: Gypsy's not happy (update) Ooooh, that's really sad, CapeKate. Mine also has this swollen belly so it's peas for him (again, 2x already this week). I hope GypsyGirl's not too sad but you're right, she'd have felt really guilty and discouraged if it had happened to her. RIP Gypsy. |

These little guys and girls really steal a big piece of our hearts, don't they? Be thankful for the smiles and joy she brought you and your g-niece...and she did have a chance of living outside those horrible cups with someone who loved and cared for her.
My Storm looks all swollen up to me tonight too, he ate his pea, and is swimming and he is one that likes to put me through the wringer when I have left him alone. Hope he is alright as well.
Me & the crew send our love and hugs! Val |
