New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

Well I was at petsmart picking up a few more black neons for the 29g and two otos for 8cents 10g tank and with my sisters grandaughter who I couldnt refuse.. Ok ok.. that is the excuse Im giving my husband when he gets home lmao... anyway we picked a beauty of a female betta, she named her Gypsy. She has alot of the same pattern like the mahachai (sp?) bettas. I will take photos soon. I love her horizontal stripes on her, they were very different and she has a bit of a pattern on her tail fins. I decided to put her in the community tank to see how she does. So far she seems happy. If it ends up to be a problem I will put the divider back into the ten gal tank and put her there. Anyway... Im excited about the new addition and will post a photo of her soon!

Re: New female betta..

The horizontal stripes may be stress stripes from being in that stressful environment. You may find that they disappear when you get her home and settled in her new surroundings, and that she gains some color, too.

Welcome to Gypsy!! Can't wait to see pictures!

Re: New female betta..

Thank you!
Im using the video to try and capture her and then transfer to photos.. having a hard time getting her to settle down alittle bit as she is checking out her new home. I was under the impression that the stress stripes on fish are vertical as they are in the discus and others. I have never seen a horizontal stress stripes?? anyone?

Re: New female betta..

Horizontal stripes in a Betta mean they are stressed. Once she settles down they should disappear.

Re: New female betta..

Thanks Phloxface
Im watching her now and trying to get some footage.. she seems to be changing color all the time. I didnt notice so much tourquise on her in the store, but in that blue water guess it was hard to tell. I hope she calms down and looses the stress lines soon.

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

she is a beauty. i wouldn't worry about the stress lines.. it's possible she took a couple of nips to her tail fin before being seperated from the other female betta babies. They look almost healed up 100% and a little stress coat would help her. I could be wrong and it's just lighting in the pics.

Sweetie took a few weeks to lose her stress lines, but she'd been through a lot, i expect your new little Gypsy to lose hers once she's accepted and gotten comfortable in her new home.

congrats on another Betta!

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

She is LOVELY!!! Honey was a similar green when i got here, she is a nightmare to photograph but i'll try and show you her now, a real electric blue. (she is a real little madame....but then i like her character!) Maybe your little girl will change to blue too.

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

Thank you CherryRose, Tazmiche and Flbettacouple!
I do think that she is turning a bright blue as well, already I have seen a change in her color. She is doing great in the community tank and no one is bothering her, and she is not bothering anyone else, so thats good news! And hopefully the stress lines will go away when she feels comfortable and I will try and take better photos soon.
My sisters granddaughter who has been visiting with us with her grandma for a week now is totally in love with the bettas. She is ten years old but VERY mature and smart for her age. Her mother told her she can have a betta when she gets home. They used to have one. I have been educating her on the care of bettas and she has actually signed onto fishlore as: GypsyGirl and will at some point when she gets home stop in with questions about care etc etc. I would be alittle nervous about a ten year old having fish but I have confidence in her that she will do it right. I will be helping her step by step along the way. We will be going out to buy tank and supplies before she goes home.
She wanted to take Gypsy home with her, but understands that a four hour drive will not be good for her, so gypsy is staying with me! I saw an all white female with just red on the outer tail fin that was a beauty, I also saw a pearl colored white female. We spent a loooong time at petsmart just trying to pick one out. I would have liked to have brought home the white female for myself.. but I let her pick gypsy out. Still all and all I am very happy with her!

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

I'm glad she is going to start fish keeping and great that she has a good role model in you!

This is the best pic of the minx, sadly you can't see the red on her tail and fins but at least you can see her, semi still!!

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

Hi Kate..............your baby is soooooooooooooo purrrrty and congrats on adding to the family!!! I am thinking that you are just acting smart cuz you don[t have to cycle another tank for her...LOL/. Can't wait to see if her colour changes that is such an amazing thing they do!! And to be able to have her in a community tank..........that is great!

All of our families re growing leaps and bounds, aren't they?? I see a celebratory party in the near future!!

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

Hi Val
I will have to take more photos of her soon... She is still doing great in the community tank. As far as cycling a tank goes tho... welllllll.. I have moved Precious to a ten gal tank that I had and gave the 2.5 to my sisters granddaughter, GypsyGirl ( her screen name here) and she will be bringing it home with her on sunday. I gave her all the bells and whistles and all she has to do is go pick out her own female betta and get some food. She is pretty excited and will be posting in the welcome to fishlore section in a few! I also will have to post photos of Precious new tank.. I love it and..... ahem.. it free's me up to get another female to go in with her since I have a divider here for that tank! yeeaaaaaa

Re: New female betta..NEW: PHOTOS

Aw, Kate she is very cute. I agree with Dave though I think she may have a bit of finrot. I couldn't tell if it's growth or not though. Hopefully it is. Maybe if you have it give her Vitachem and it will help with the regrowth of her fins as well as keep her healthy for the most part. Natalie
