Concerned about Flames fins

He has his 'water park' and as soon i we realised he liked to dive bomb the artificial plant near by we rearranged the tank. His dorsal fin isn't great now and gut feeling says he has ripped it playing. His tail is still the same as day one so i am not sure if it is fin rot or just playtime damage!

He only stops playing to come to chat, even at feed times he'd rather play ( eat a pellet then play, just like a little kid!)

I'll try to get a pic that shows what i mean ( he is never still!!) I worry about the UK meds though. Any UK betta owners on here with experience?

He has API Stress coat in water and now a good clear run around the 'park'
Do we wait and see? he is a VERY happy little chap.

( BTW Honey's new trick is to jump out of the water!! Rather high too!!!....my heart is in my mouth every time i open the lid!! Such a cheeky minx)

Ok 2 pics taken half an hour ago. One of bad fin ne as he looks as a whole!

11:30pm and he is tired!! you should see him when he is sleepy! so scraggy! He looks ragged, pale and unloved! He just won't rest! Don't you just wish that you could give them a good cuddle!! Have to say i could do with a big hug myself tonight!!! Soppy moo!

Re: Concerned about Flames fins

If you can find liquid vitamins, especially VitaChem, they can help in regrowing fins.. i would recommend only silk or live plants though.. the plastic ones can have a negative effect on betta fins even when they seem safe. the stress coat helps too and he's most likely completely fine. He may have just torn it from showing off too since they can (our Sora and Aslan both have done that). Just watch his fins and relax, chances are you don't have anything to be concerned about.

If honey is that much of a jumper, does the top of her tank have any holes? Do you have a pic of the top of it? I'd cover any holes with netting held in place with heavy-duty tape.. we did that with the mahachai betta tank since we didn't want the wild bettas jumping out.

They are silk plants in there but i've said to mum if he likes to throw himself around like that then i'll get real ones later today.

Honey's tank is COMPLETELY covered, they both have the same tanks.
I haven't seen Vitamins for fish but will go and search later.

They certainly are!! Last night i dreamt Honey was ill so at 3:45am i was up checking fish tanks. Flame was curled up asleep in his cave, looked soooo sweet but I must have made Honey jump as she zoomed around the tank, then hung at the top of the water lifeless, Well i nearly died. I am well aware that i do look scary when i wake up but it was just what had happened in my dream. She went and hid behind the heater whilst i tested water which did need changing. She soon came out looking for food and to kiss my finger! Flame is dive bombing again as i type. Need to get him another distraction as he plays more than H. I just love these little buggers!

How many bettas have you got now, Michelle?

Wow, they sound sooo playful and cool, yours. I think mine may need a little time. Or perhaps he's just a tame character.

They curl up when they sleep? How cute is that? I've never seen mine sleep.

Awwww...you are missing out! Mine goes into his little cave and curls up on the side to sleep. Either that, or he props himself up against the side of the tank to sleep. It's so cute!!!

*wow, that made me feel feminine, haha*

LOL. yea, we've all made our little babies jump.. then they'll pout and give you the stare to let you know you were bad before making up.

They are real cute sleeping.. it's funny how each one has favorite sleeping spots. and some are slow risers too, just like people.

Re: Concerned about Flames fins

Karma and Daphne like to sleep later than the others so I make sure not to turn on any lights until they are up. They get so grumpy if you wake them.
Every one has their own favorite sleeping spot. LP has dug a hole at the side of the tank using his head to shovel gravel away from the side of the tank. He sleeps in there. If I move the gravel back he just starts digging again so to keep him from injuring himself I just leave his little hole as is.

Oh bless him!!!

My 2 house rabbits are like that, if i rearrange their stuff whilst cleaning they thump, flick their back feet at me then literally throw their toys back ( you should hear the noise) to where they want them. The male Max is the one that really sulks with me for it!! But these fish are something else for mood swings. Lol. I love watching my Guppies sleep too, they love to snuggle into places too.

Re: Concerned about Flames fins

Oh that's so cute about the rabbit. I'd love a rabbit (is there a pet I wouldn't love to have? am still searching). I love a pet with an attitude and bettas are just that.

The only fish sleeping behaviour I've ever observed is the puffers who just rest on stuff and don't move, and my mollies, who swim stationary in one place. I'm yet to see my betta asleep.

The best time to see where they sleep is when it's gotten light enough to see, but not wake them up yet.. or use your handy night-vision googles . You can also find them sleeping if you're up before the sun is and turn the light on. (not really the best thing to do with a red though).
