Picked up Vita-Chem and garlic guard....quick questions

Do you soak all foods in these (such as freeze-dried foods), or just pellets? Also, what is the best way to soak and feed? Looking forward to getting these here after all the great things I've read about the products here on the site

Garlic guard I'm not sure as I don't use that. Vita chem though it's better if you just put the drops directly in the water instead of soaking them in the food. That's what I do. It's 2 drops per gallon of water. I usually will put 10 drops in my 5 gallon each time I change the water and then 5 drops once a day. My 3 I put 6 every water change and 3 once a day. Natalie

I just put the food (any food) in a spoon and use a dropper to put enough garlic guard or vitamins to cover food and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then use the dropper to drain off remaining liquid and use the tip of dropper to gently push the food into tank.

Thanks to the both of you!

Phloxface, I'm taking it you are talking about an eye dropper, correct? Another thing, I have a specific question for you that I'd like to ask in an email so I have easy access to it. If you see this and don't mind answering the question, could you please post here or PM me your email address? Thank you.

yea, we drop the vitachem in like Natalie does.. some of our bettas like to chase and nip the 'smoke rings' when the drops fall. We haven't gotten the Garlic guard yet, but it's on our next order after reading about it here and something we probably should have ordered sooner. just so many things to order.

Garlic Guard is fairly expensive and not necessary. All you need to do is get some garlic into them. Just go to the store and get a jar of minced garlic and soak the food in the garlic juice or get some garlic POWDER not SALT and mix with a drop or two of water (dechlorinated) and let it sit for a few minutes with the food and they will get all the good of the garlic without the hefty price and goes much further.

I paid less than $3 for a very big bottle of Garlic Guard. It's the cheapest fish thing I've bought yet. Usually in Canada everything is more expensive than the US. I would have to pay more than that for a small jar of minced garlic at the grocery store and it wouldn't have the added vitamins of Garlic Guard. I agree it's not neccessary but then neither is Vita-chem but both are good things to have to help strengthen the fish's immune system.

Yeah, I think I paid $3 for a bottle at drfostersmith.com. Plus, it sounds more convinient to add a drop or two out of a bottle than mix up a little garlic concoction. Yes, I am lazy

Re: Picked up Vita-Chem and garlic guard....quick questions

I'm sure it would be fine either way, whatever is easiest and cheapest for you, but I just wanted to clear up that Garlic Guard is definately not expensive and probably one of the cheapest supplements you can get for your fish. If only water conditioners and meds were so cheap!

It's up to $4.99 a bottle now. Don't use it with vampire bettas though!
