Is He Happy?

I have had Chopstick for ~2 months. He is in a 10 gal with 4 Platies, and he loves them. I feed him small frozen cubes of bloodworms, krill, and spinach, and tropical flakes. He seems to love it. He seems happy, darting to & fro and eats when fed.

He has not made a bubblenest. Is this normal? I don't even see him trying! Could the Bubble statue be causing too much agitation on the surface? I'm debating putting him in his own tank.

Re: Is He Happy?

well not all bettas build bubblenests when they are happy. They can be happy and not build bubblenests. If there is too much agitation try seeing if you can get a valve to control the flow of the bubbles. If everyone is happy in the tank and the platys don't bother him or visa versa I don't think there is a need to move him unless there is something going on.Hope that helps. Natalie

Re: Is He Happy?

I've just read the 'Bubble nest pics' thread on here, i'm new to bettas. Read it i think it is a good insight into different males!

Re: Is He Happy?

Some males will work on bubblenest every day (my Niles drives me crazy with his huge nest covering nearly the whole top of the tank) and some never build any. As long as they are active, swimming and eating they are happy.

Re: Is He Happy?

My boy Storm still has a few bubbles in his tank from the Maracyn TC tetracycline.....................and he still is trying to convince me they are a bubblenest!!! So Bad............. sadly, none of my bettas have made me a bubble nest, I am thinking perhaps too much water movement from the bio wheel...........but they love playing in that!! Val

Re: Is He Happy?

Definitely don't let his not bubble nesting worry you about him being happy. none of our guys build them and they're all happy Bettas. it seems to be one of those personality things so some do and some don't.. and we are left .

Chopstick says "Thanks for reassuring Mom, she was starting to freak out on me!".

Thanks everyone! Where would I be without you??

I see bubble nests in these really nasty cups at the petstore, so I really don't think it's especially related to happiness.

Re: Is He Happy?

yea, the pet store cups have bubble nests from the instinct triggered by other males so close.. bubble nests are nice and if your guy builds one it's cool, but you can measure their happiness more by the way they swim, eat and act when you talk to them.
