Beta

I just recently purchased a Beta and was hoping to put him in my 55 gallon tank. In this tank I have 1 redtail 3 swordtail and 2 Bala Sharks.

I have recently had to quarantine the balas and one of the female swordtails and the beta was in the quarantine tank. They seem to be doing fine together.... I was just wondering how long it would take to see if this group is really getting along.

Thank you!

Re: Beta

Shouldnt take that long within a few days you should see if there are any problems. You said you've recently bought this tank has it cycled?

Re: Beta

Yeah, it has cycled. I removed the beta just to make sure but I think that they have something else though as they are not looking too good and my swordtail whish is a much fancier fish was not even touched! I have no idea what it would be though, my only thought is fin rot but that does not make too much sense either from what I have read!

Re: Beta

My balas are/were acting weird. Actually the one I accidentally killed by giving it a salt bath. The others seem to be doing better now that I have put them back into the 55 gallon tank. The one that I killed I was sure had fin rot and I read that a good thing is a salt bath.... wrong for my fish.

The other two seem to be ok but their fins seem raggedy and the tip of the back fin of one of them just fell off. I am hoping that the big tank will give them a more pleasant evironment. I still cannot help but think that it may have been the beta as I have never seen fin rot before...

Sometimes the balas seem to loose their bouyance and they kind of float in the tank backwards which is why I had quarantined them in the first palce

Re: Beta

Actually I never did put the beta in my 55 gallon tank as I was thinking that the beta and balas would not get along... so there would be a problem as well with my red tail... he seems to keep to himself alot but who knows what happens when I am not around. I will just keep my beta in his own tank.
