Are there any species of fish compatible with tiger barbs? I won't be stocking this tank for awhile, but I'm trying to figure out if it would have to be tiger barbs only or if I could add a few other species with them. The tiger barb school would be about 6. If I can't add other species with them, I'll be upping the school to 10.

Tiger barbs do well with most other peaceful, community fish; they're usually too busy chasing each other around than worrying about the other fish in the tank, its when they're too few in numbers that they get bored and start nipping at other's fins but 6+ is a good number to have. Just avoid fish with long fins (like Angelfish and bettas) or fish that would be agressive towards them. My first tank had a school of tiger barbs (the green ones are really cool IMO), a couple gouramis and some cories and it worked out perfectly....well...other than a case of ICH I had

Tigers and corys, that sounds like a pretty cool-looking tank. I love my cories and I'm always looking for reasons to get more.

Rummynose tetras-I love them and want to get some. I may do a school of them in there as well. That would be a very flashy tank.

I agree! Tiger barbs would look great with rummynose tetras.
I've found that tiger barbs aren't as aggressive as people make them sound. The only time you really see their aggression come out is if there isn't enough of them or the tank is too small for them.

Better take some pictures when your new tank is set up!

I think a tiger barb tank is a great opportunity to get a crayfish. There aren't many fish that will do well with crays, but barbs do. They're quick, darting movements and small fins make them hard to catch, and they sleep high in the tank, out of the crays reach.

I have 13 TBs and a crayfish in a 29 - one of my favorite tanks. I do feed them full grown guppies (I breed them for food) once or twice a month - they're like pirhanas - and the crayfish cleans up after them.
