Odessa Barb fry Journal :)

Hi guys, this is my thread/journal on my odessa barb fry, i will be adding to this nearly every day .

4/3/09:
Added my biggest female and most colourful male to my 15G planted

4/4/09:
Adult barbs spawned in amongst the plants and were then immediately removed and returned to the main tank.

4/5/09:
The eggs hatched, even though i couldnt see any of the fry lol.

4/6/09:
The fry started free swimming and i saw 2 babys, however i also noticed a few small worms which almost 'flick' to swim.

4/7/09:
I put the aquarium light on this morning and saw atleast 4 fry eating algae off of the back of the tank, i also saw one swimming at the front of the aquarium, these little guys are so cute They are about 3 millimetres long .
When i first put the tank light on, tiny little 'flicking' worms were everywhere, all on the floor of the tank, are these worms dangerous, i think if they stay as small as they are, they will soon become a feast for my barb fry

Pics will be posted once i can get a good picture of a little one, or once they are big enough to take pictures of easily

I have counted 16 fry today, they getting close to half a centimetre long but are still too small for my cameara to pick up detail of
I realised how the 'worms' got in my tank, i had put some fresh rain water in the tank as its low in pH, but a gnat (mosquito, whatever you like to call it) had dropped larvae in the water, but i have seen the barbs attacking the small worms so hopefully they will eat them all

Ooo i just thought of a question.
The fry really seem to like hiding and resting on the gravel so will i be ok not to perform gravel vacs for a couple of weeks? but just stirring the gravel with a plastic rod or something to stop gas building up in the gravel.
I dont want to suck up my babys so i would like to leave it a couple of weeks until i gravel vac just to make sure they know they need to get out of the way

Congrats on the babies!!! I am glad that they are growing and doing well You should be fine going without a gravel vac for a few weeks. Their bioload is so tiny.....I doubt that they are producing much waste.
