| | Fish Addict | I'm not sure. When I bought my red glass barb they were in the same tank as the Rosy Barbs.
The Red Glass barb I find is more orangeish, but it have a defined black dot on the tail. |

| | Fish Bum | Mud, I do see a fish amongst the tiger barbs that looks like one of my red glass barbs. Is that the rosy barb? |

| | Fish Addict | That's correct zig, there's a red glass barb in the picture with the Tiger Barbs. I think they are part of the Rosy Barb family. Still haven't got very much information on them.
catersun, did you not notice the red glass barb in the picture before you posted? |

I just bought four rosy barbs a week ago, (poor things didnt make it. I had a problem with my heater that broke.) But anyway.. the rosy barbs that I had did not look like your red glass barb photos. So in my opinion those photos you have are not rosy barbs.
I am surprised tho that your tiger barbs are not showing the typical orange between the stripes? Yours seem to be almost all silver and black with tinges of red and of course the red/orange fins. I have not seen them in that silver/black/red pattern... Only the orange/black/red fins types. ~ kate Last edited by capekate; December 20th, 2007 at 09:29 AM.

The article states that the rosy barb comes in neon (which I had) rosy and a golden color, which looks like yours. So After seeing those photos that Isabella linked to, I have to change my opinion and say that yes, you have a type of rosy barb, the golden.
Very pretty fish btw... Good luck with them! ~ kate |

| | Fish Addict | The more I research them the more I get confused.
Far as Red Glass Barb themselves, there's yellowish and goldish colored. It's my understanding the yellowish ones are females and goldish ones are males.
My Red Glass Barb is translucent to yellow with the black dot. Here's another picture of mine that I found in my album: |

Did you happen to click on the link that Isabella posted above? You will see there, the exact same fish as your photo here. So it is called a rosy barb, but a variety of rosy barb, a golden, has the same dot on the tail as well. Check out her link and you will see it. ~ kate |

| | Fish Addict | Kate,
Sure did when it was first posted. I agree that they are part of the Rosy Barb family. Matter of fact, I need to go back and get me a male for my little female and give her a companion of her same kind. According to the article, the males are who turn red in color. |

Its probably a good idea to have at least one male to three females, to stop any aggressions. As colorful as the males are, when you have more than one in the tank they can get aggressive with each other when competing with the females. ~ kate |

| | Fish Bum | Thanks for everyone's input. A couple of my barbs are more yellowish orange and some are a deep orange. I had a feeling that had to do with gender. I have found they are less aggressive toward other species if they are in a group of 4 or more. When I had only 2, they chewed on the fins of my blind irridecent (sp?) shark. Once I increased their numbers, they left everyone alone. They will eventually be going into the new tank with the golden gourami and the yoyo loach. |
