Due to a little "incident" with my zebra danios I'm trying to another schooling fish for my 22g. The old zebra I use to have got along great with my little unknown (we call him Goldie since he is a nice shade of orange but we can't find anything that looks like him and the guy we got him from a few years ago doesn't recall ever selling any fish to fit his description) and my cories. Within 24 hours I actually saw two of the newer ones tear off the older one's tail fin - they would of went right back to the store if I didn't still have my 10g set up. I'm a little paranoid now about adding any new fish. Goldie does swim about the tank from time to time if we arn't looking but he usually stays under the filter, between some plants and the rock cave or by one of the cories if they are in the back. He's been like that for well over a year now - the older zebra use to go in and flush him out of his hiding spots when it was time to eat or every now and then the two would swim together for a few minutes. I've catch him swimming around and checking out the tablets I give to the cories at night so I'm pretty sure he's eating and is healthy, probablly just very lonely. We've been trying to figure out what kind of fish he is for months with no luck.

Sorry for all that, just trying to explain where I'm coming from. I really like how barbs look and I have to say I love how the tiger barbs look but I've heard they can be a bit more on the agressive side even when they are in groups of 6+. I've read that cherry barbs tend to be very peaceful, swim all over the tank but are still a little on the shy side in schools. Are there any kinds of barbs that do well with other shy, "scaried" fish (and cories) or am I better off looking somewhere else?

tiger barbs are jsut that little tigers lol but cherry barbs are nice i dont know if they school or not but i honestly dont think barbs would be the way to go. if you can post a picture of your setup that would be really helpful. but other than that you should look more in the tetra family.

According to that site they get up to 6 inches. UHhhhhH I have had a few in my day and never seen one more than 2.5 inches. Makes me wonder. They have always been pretty mellow barbs for me. Cherries are definitely peaceful and totaly hang out together. I like all Barbs except Tigers lol. They are just so mean.

I can't say I'm very fond of tetras but if they end up being the best choice and I still can't figure out what Goldie is I'll probably settle for them heh. I've added a few plants to the back and some small rocks to the front to break it up a bit but I plan on going with live plants, making a little terrace with a cave in it and using some bogwood in the next few months, try and offer more hiding places while looking better at the same time.

I was talking to a friend that I just found out works at my Petsmart and was saying her mother has a 30g just for cherry barbs and some kind of snail, already forgot what she called them. She's only familiar with the fish she's actually had so she didn't feel comfortable offering any advice with the little unknown and the cories. If cherry barbs don't work I'm going to have to make sure I find a place that I can line all the walls with tanks o_0

be careful with barbs. My grandpa had 4 of them in a school in a 75g tank and they wiped out a school of neon tets. Barbs are fin biters so be careful especially with fish with llong fins and fish smaller then them. They are okay by themselves, but in a school they can be devastating. Rasboras and danios are good schoolers along with tets either neons, cardinals, or glow lights. These are excellent schoolers and they are non aggressive.

According to the ID board my little Goldie is most likely a glowlight tetra so I'll be going with more of them. Now that I can't have them, I want them even more! Wonder if I have any family members I can talk into getting me a 55g+ as a moving out gift

I've been keeping cherry barbs for about 12 years, and have yet to see an ounce of aggression from any them. On the contrary they are quite timid, so it's necessary to have at least 3 - 1 male and 2 females at the very least.

I love these cute colourful fish and I'm sure you would too.
