One of my Bala sharks fins are seperating what could be doing this is it something I need to worry about

Looking at your tank mates (tiger barbs and a RTS) I would guess his fins are being nipped. Beware, as the fins could become infected. Keep the water clean and add some Stress Coat + water conditioner to help the fins regenerate.

Also, you bala will grow to a whopping 14" long, and a 55 gallon might be able to hold him, but being an active schooling fish, doesn't give him alot of room to move in. I hope you have a potential tank to rehome him to should he ever outgrow your aquarium.

He may well be having his fins nipped. A 55 gallon is too small for such an active fish like a Bala, and they are very skittish unless they are in a school. They grow absolutely massive, so I would recommend moving or re homing him to a much bigger tank.
