Re: 5.5 gallon Low-Tech Heavily planted Update New Years EVE
well still waiting for the tank have the cabinet though! and the rocks my mate has the tank but is finding it difficult to deliver it!! still deciding to go live or fake plants though. is there a problem with putting them in later say in 2-3- months time i see all these beautiful live plants and wonder if i should be doing the same!!!
Re: 5.5 gallon Low-Tech Heavily planted Update New Years EVE
I would put them in in the beginning, I find it just easier to put them in before all the fish come in then they have somewhere to hide. When you put them in later you might expierence algae problems that's all I can think off though that may not happen I don't know, it's up to you though I would suggest putting them in first though you have plenty of time to figure it out since you have to cycle the tank before the fish go in anyways.
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-10-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
ingenius buddy, i am going to hit you up with a gazillion questions very soon my tank has been postponed another coupla days. how much did the d i y co2 cost you to set up
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-10-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
cost me 1.19 for pop bottle, 3$ for check vavle, 1.56$ for tubing. That's it. Ask all you want, just take it slow, first time I did this it didn't work, I took it slower this time and it worked. This is a common idea among planted tanks so it's not like I made it up.
add two cups sugar
fill two liter bottle up with 3/4 luke warm water
add yeast and baking soda, cap tightly
co2 will be coming in a few hours
lasts 3-4 weeks
For you being such a large tank you would have to have a lot of DIY bottles up and running, you might want to go for pressurized instead
Depending how many watts you have co2 may or may not be necessary
p.s. how's your tank coming, going to make a journal
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
Here's a two week update, have co2 running too
1. tank
2. closer of the tank
3. swords
4. spikey wanted a picture
5. excuse the cucumber
6. mass of hornwort
7. My light, thinking of buying a new fluescent tube to even the light out more and get more to the sides of the tank as this has one light in the middle
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
Very Crafty ATM! wow!
I am a big fan of DIY projects. It's alot more fun! Unfourtantly I am very lazy, although that is where i get alot of my ideas from! How can i make this easier? LOL!
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
If you plan on using it on your grandady tank you are going to need to make a lot of them for them to have much of an effect, I would just go with easy low light plants then go co2, it's a lot easier that way. Later I'll make a post on how to make it, I DID NOT come up with this way, I got it from John n. on a plant forum, this is common knowledge and I just used his way.
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
Been a bit lazy on this, a update will come tomorow. Did weekly maintence today but didn't get time to take any pics. got over a three foot of hornwort in there now, I absolutely love this stuff now.
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
Ya unfortunately I'm fighting a little algae so the plants are a little out of order and since I didn't buy plants like you are I'v been stuck waiting for plants to grow. Overall yes everythings going well.
Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
magic mr machine, i so dearly want real plants but after reading what may be involved i will stick to what i have. your tank is a bottle of wine just getting better with age!!! magnifico!
i bought another orniment today and asked the man about finding me an orniment maker for my amusement park to make me what i want. i too like you had that idea. before i got here on this forum. that was the reason i joined in the hope that someone would know a manufacturer. alas for the next tank. excuse me "burp" just took a bite of my MTS sandwich!!!

Re: CO2 IS WORKING, UPDATE 1-15-07-5.5 gallon nano planted tank
whenever i get new plants for my 65gallon plant tank i take about 1tsp of bleach and mix it with about 1 gallon of water and soak the plants in the bleach for about 2min each then i soak for about 5min in a prime and water solution to remove the bleach and it wokrs wonders at keeping snails out of plants. as for co2 i see you have it working now. what i use for mine atm is 4 hagen co2 canisters on the 65gallon and for my 5gallon nano plant tank i use 1 hagen co2 canister and i attach halfway through the hose a valve allowing me to control the amount of c02 allowed to enter the ladder
