bust up arowana

I have just got a arowana from a friend of mine.it is about 12 inches
long.it is in very bad condition. It is missing its front barbells due to jumping from the tank and landing head first on the ground.the top part of the fish is very ugly.it is missing scales and the fins are torn up. I
wanted to ask if the arowana will grow back these things or if it will
stay like that its whole life.Is there any thing i can do to help it grow nicer and
more beautiful?

Re: bust up arowana

All you can do right now is keep the water very clean, and watch for sign of infection. I'm glad he will be in better hands now!

He will also need a large tank as they are very active fish. You will need to keep the whole top covered and you may even need to put something heavy on the top to keep him from bumping it off and coming out again. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Re: bust up arowana

Sounds good Keep up the good work. They are beautiful fish. I guess I'm a little paranoid. Knew someone who lost his Arowana due to him jumping out of the tank even with the top covered and weighted. They are very strong.

What kind of Arowana do you have?
I had an Australian Arowana before and trust me, 90 gallon tank is not big enough. The Arowana grow to about 2.5-3ft long before it killed itself by breaking the heater during a cold winter; it can barely "swim" in that tiny 90 gallon (mine was about 4ft long). I'd say a 150-180 gallon tank would be much a better fit for Arowana. (of course the bigger the better)
It's easier to put it in a big tank while they are still small. When it grow up to 2-3 ft it's a pain to get them out of the tank.
but if you can only get your hands on a 90 gallon tank then at least it's better than a 55 gallon.
Good luck with the Arowana, it's an amazing fish.

hi fishguy , i think your arowana's scales will grow back if u feed them pellet foods, frozen and live foods, arowanas r carnivores and they grow over 3", you'll need a 150 gallon tank for it.

i think u missed the picture, i would really like to take a look at it, i like arowanas.

Do you mean 3' instead? :P j/k
other than the volume of the tank, the dimension is also important. since Arowanas are more like surface swimmer you don't really need a tank that's very tall. the length and depth of the tank would be more important. a long tank allows them to swim and a deeper tank allows them to turn around.
The one I had before loves cricket. Arowanas loves insects, and other live foods (pretty much anything they can swallow). That's why they are strong jumpers, to catch flying insects.
Insects also full with protine, that will help your arowana to heal.
just my 2cents

I'm with you on that one, unless you are trying to put like 100 of them in there. :
