| | Fish Addict | Day 1 Yesterday I emptied out my 55 gallon freshwater tank. I took most of the fish and plants and traded them in for store credit at work.
Today I finished cleaning the tank, filled it, and added 1/2 cup of salt per gallon. Tonight I'm just letting the salt mix with the water in the tank. Tomorrow I'm going to purchase a refractometer and add the sand as well.
Next Monday I plan on purchasing 33 lbs of live rock and a few fish. Most likely a clown fish, a velvet damsel, and a Pseudochromis or a blenny.
My plans are to add a Wolf eel, porcupine puffer, and a wrasse (bird or dragon). |

| | Fish Keeper | Sounds expensive, are you going to try to breed the clowns? |

| | Fish Addict | It's my birthday and Christmas present this year. I'm not going to breed clowns. The wolf eel and puffer would eat them anyway. |

| | Fish Addict | Day 8 / October 5th I added 4 pieces of live rock. One rock has sea cactus growing on it. I found 2 snails on the rocks. I also purchased a blue velvet damsel and a one spot foxface. Both are hiding. Hopefully they get used to the tank and come around. I couldn't get a good picture of the damsel, I couldn't get a picture of the foxface at all. Tomorrow I pick up the wolf eel. I LOVE HER! Wait till you guys see her! She's gorgeous!
Edit: You can see part of the damsel in that last pic. Last edited by aquatic mouse; October 7th, 2009 at 11:35 PM.

| | Fish Addict | Day 10 / October 7th Added new wolf eel! Unfortunately she promptly ate the tail of my damsel. I was hoping against reason that she would leave him alone. I named the foxface Vixen, & the damsel Volt. pH: 7.8 ammonia: 0 nitrite: 0 nitrate: 10 |

| | Fish Addict | Okay, it's been MANY DAYS! Sorry for not keeping anyone up to date.
I brought the wolf eel back to the store. She refused to eat silver sides, mussel, clam, shrimp, flakes, goldfish, ANYTHING! Then she ate my damsel. Well, I can't afford to feed her $10 fish every day.
Also, the sea cactus died.
Alright, that's enough bad news. I added 4 hermit crabs so far & a few snails. I'll be adding more of both. I also have 6 green chromis and a new neon velvet damsel. I have 65lbs of live rock.
And the most exciting news? On October 23rd, I added a stars & stripes puffer! I love him! I named him Steve because I thought it was funny. He hasn't bothered anyone so far. I've been feeding him a lot. His favorite food is mussels.
Day 32 [October 30, 2009]
pH: 7.8
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20
Note: Since Day 1, I have been adding Purple Up. |

| | Fish Addict | Whoops. Forgot to mention. I plan on saving enough to upgrade to a 180 gallon in 2 years. That way I'll have a VERY happy Steve!
Pictures of everyone coming soon! Last edited by aquatic mouse; October 30th, 2009 at 01:15 PM.

| | Fish Master | nice! i was just going to compliment you on the eel, it is gorgeous! I cant wait to see the new pics
Is it going to be a FOWLR tank or a reef tank? |
| |
November 2nd, 2009
|
| | Fish Addict | It's a FOWLR tank. Steve (the puffer) would eat any corals.
Unfortunately I had to take back the eel. I can't afford daily damsels. She still greets me at work. She's a very friendly fish. We have a new snowflake eel at Jacks as well. That one has an ATTITUDE! He chases fish 5 times his size! |
