Take two.

Ok, take two. After narrowly saving my betta from what sounds like a horrible death, I am gonna try to take another stab at this fungal infection. I have an empty like small hex tank. Sadly is has no filter/heater. What I'm thinking is I could put the Betta in it, then do daily water changes, treat my main tank with Pimafix and Melafix untill this infection resolves, and after treatment put media back in and no harm to Betta.

Does this sound like it's gonna even work out?

Before using Pimafix or Melafix on your betta, please read this thread and do some research on these products and how they might effect labyrinth fish

Lucy, I don't think your read my post correctly. I was gonna put the Betta in the small tank and THEN treat my main 10 gallon. The Betta won't be in the 10 gallon during the treatment process.

The water changes would keep the waste down, but without the heater, your betta wouldn't be happy. You could open things up for him to get an infection of his own.
Have you tried any other kind of fungal cure?

Also, MelaFix can be okay for bettas, but if you use it, it's very important that you not overdose. Halving the dosage would be best. I personally consider MelaFix a last resort with labyrinth fish, but there are many aquarists who have used it with no problem. In fact, in people who use half dosage, I've never heard of any fatalities like those caused by Melafix.

I've tried a Jungal brand cure and a Wal-Mart brand cure. Both didn't work.

On the half dosage, I still don't wanna risk it.

Maybe I can go to my LFS and pick up a really small filter/heater. Hey it's better then nothing.

I had to use one of the cheap tetra heaters in a pinch. I didn't have problems with it, but wouldn't use it long term.

Sounds good on the heater filter.
I don't blame you with the Melafix. Especially in a 10g tank, one extra drop could mean the difference between cure and death. I just want to be sure that people have complete information on the subject.

How much % of water should I take out during a WC? I MIGHT be able to get a heater but its a no go on the filter.

If it were me, I'd do multiple water changes a day that added up to 100%
