Nitrate Testing

A co-worker brought in a water sample and her testing kit. Her testing kit has expired. If I bring home her water tonight to test it, will the ammonia, trites, and trates test correctly?

It should. It's no difference in taking a sample to a store to be tested.

Edit: Except we know your will be accurate! lol

I ran the tests when I got home. pH 7.6, ammonia and nitrites 0.

Now for the fun part-Nitrates 80! I have NEVER allowed mine to get that high so I could use some verification of the advice I need to give her. It's 50% daily water changes for 2 or 3 days until they drop to around 20, right?

I've already told her I'll test her water for her whenever she wants it tested. It's not like I don't keep testing kits on hand. In fact, due to the number of tanks, I usually keep one full backup of everything especially since I test full parameters weekly.

She's wanting some of my guppy babies when they get a little bigger and I'm not allowing my babies to go into a tank with 80 nitrates. I don't allow mine to go over 20 so I don't think they could take the shock.
