Establishing for Angels

I have a 50 gallon "corner" tank. I would like to put angels in it, but I know they need an established aquarium. I have 8 convicts that are a little over a month old. Are they big enough to "establish" the aquarium in six months? Their tank is cycled, so I was going to move their filter and add another one that will be staying on the tank so we'll have an instant cycle. I just want to make sure the tank will be "strong" enough for a pair of angels in a few months if I use the convicts since they're so small, even though they'll be growing quickly in the tank.

Hi dahlink!!!
you have enough established filters now, that you can have an instant established tank in about a month with fish in that tank....what is your oldest established filter and what size tank is it on and what fish are in that tank?

The 55 tropical community tank has at least one filter (the other was taken to establish another tank) that's been running on it since 3 months before I got it in May. That's when the woman I got it from started the tank.

I'm going to give away my secret when I do this, but it has four koi angels (Thank You SWilkins), 3 mollies (once again-ty SWilkins), one bolivian ram, 5 pristella tetras, 4 julii corys, one clown pleco, 4 platys, one dwarf neon rainbowfish. Once the angels pair, I want one pair in the 50 and if the other two pair, they'll stay in the 55. If not, one will stay in the 55 and I'll set up one of the empty 29g's for the other.

The rest of my secret are in other tanks. Some are waiting for Shelby to decide which room she wants them in. Others are just waiting for me to take pics. I still have 5 or 6 empty tanks for cichlid crisises.

So what do you think is the best way to do this? My african cichlid tanks are pretty established as well if we take nitrate production into consideration.

LOL you and your secrets ....nawty!! Im happy for you tho!!!! and want pics of course now that the cats outta the bag
I would put extra media in your 55g tank(or you may already have some) and run it for a month...that will give it time to build up bacteria enough to get this 50g going...taking your filter off the 55g with that stocking list, would probably cause a mini cycle as 2 angels and a school of bottom feeders wont be able to feed the colony like the stock is now...or grab some media out of any of your other tanks that dont have a larger stocking list, and move it with the 2 angels that pair up wait another month and then stock your bottom feeders....angels do like established tanks and that can consist of filters that are already established and some of the subtrate and deco that you have had going for awhile now...most of my experience with angels is more of a pH shock difference and not so much things being established (although that is important also) but your angels must be use to the ph by now ..sneaky girl!

Wow, so this will be easier than I thought! Thanks, Shawnie!

I'm hoping to have all the secrets out-with pics when possible, no later than tomorrow evening.

LOL

it will be easier ONLY because you run so much extra filtration and media...not for any other reason for other members reading this
