welcome to fishlore!! it depends on a few things
1. how long the tank has been cycled/setup
2. whats in the tank
3. size of tank

if you fill in your aquarium info under mysettings, it will help us help you allot more

I have moved your thread out of forum log in issues and into the water section

Very generally speaking you would be looking at somewhere between 25 & 50% each week but that is very variable & depends, like Shawnie says, on how long the tank has been set up & what's in it. How many of what sort of fish & are there plants?

I would be guessing this is a new aquarium so make sure you have ammonia, nitrite & nitrate test kits as well a a suitable pH test kit. You will need to monitor all of these things while you cycle the tank or you may well run into some pretty serious problems.

50% every week. Good, clean water is essential to a healthy aquarium.

Welcome to Fishlore!

What is your tank status.....just setup, cycling? Please fill in your aquarium info so we can help you better. Thanks

I change about 25% followed with a gravel vac about every 10 days or so, but that is an established tank. I agree, it depends if your tank is overstocked or what fish you have. Some fish are really sensitive to water quality then others, but all in all keeping the water clean and nitrAtes less then 20 for all species is the key to happy healthy fish.

50-100% daily? Are you joking or do you have a reason for that?

Nope serious. I was growing out and keeping discus. I feed a lot, a lot of high protein homemade food so i am forced to change a lot of water. Keeps them healthy, grows them large, grows them fast. And thats in each and every tank.

Stuff that for a joke. I find it bad enough doing my weekly changes on my 6 displays. And here I was thinking of doing a discus tank seeing as I just bought an RO unit of my own!! What your doing would kill me.

Its all relative to what you put into it and what you want out of it. Also varies depending on what you feed, how much you feed, and how many fish are in the tank. If you're going for a show tank with larger adult discus in it they don't need that much. But if you are growing discus out in a bare tank pounding them full of food 3-6 times a day, more WCs are needed. Because more food = more poo = more wastes total (poo and food) = more WCs.

Good morning. Welcome to Fish Lore Christy! Everyone has a different routine on their water changes. One thing to take into consideration is you need to maintain a steady pH level. Here is a link you may find helpful:

Properly Maintaining the pH in a Freshwater Aquarium - Rate My Fish Tank

Too as mentioned you have to take into consideration your stocking list, your water chemistry, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. You will eventually fall into a routine and know what you need to do and when you need to do it. Fresh water is a must for a good healthy tank.
I change 25g every week in my 265g tank. This keeps my readings where they need to be for the stocking list that I have.
Best of luck!

Planted tanks gets 25-50% every 6-8 weeks

Cichlid tank gets 25% every 2-3 weeks

BN tanks get 50% 1-2 weeks

1 of my 2fts is done every couple of days due to it being majorly overstocked
