tetra flora pride + yellow water?

Hi Everybody,

I just recently started adding tetra flora pride to our medium planted tank once a week during my water change. Since day 2 or 3 of adding it, I noticed our water color had a slight yellowish tint to it. Any ideas on why this is happening?

thanks!

No clue about the Flora Pride, but I noticed that your tank is kind of new and was wondering if you had possibly added any driftwood. Some driftwood will leach tannins into your water, resulting in a yellowish or tan color. If that's what is happening, don't worry because it isn't at all harmful.

Either way, I'd suspect that running some carbon in your filter might clear up the water.

FloraPride is mostly iron and potassium, and I've read that excess iron can impart a yellow tinge to the water.

So if you didn't add any driftwood, as harpua2002 asked about, you might want to check and make sure you're not adding too much FloraPride.

I use Florapride for my tank, and it doesnt leave any sort of off-color. You might be adding to much of it, How much do you add?

Hi, I'm having the same kind of problem although i'm not adding any chemicals.

i have a 20 litre tank with 3 mollies and an alge eater and a few fake plants. I'v tried doing serveral water changes and cleaned the filter but yet my water still looks yellow. i've even used one of those magnetic cleaner things to clear the glass. the only things that goes into my water once every 2 weeks is a tank cleaner that degrades ammonia and nitrite and help maximaise oxygen availability. all it contains is natural micro organisms and ive only used it 2 twice.

every post ive read is about other people using chemicals and that can change the water colour but i dont. any ideas?

The tetra flora that I inherited from someone else definitely has a color to it. If you are adding it regularly I could definitely see it turning yellow. I would make sure you aren't over dosing. I know if you overdose with Tetra dechlorinator you get some fun side effects... bubbles.

If you don't have driftwood it could also be from dead plant matter. If you have any old leaves or roots left in the substrate it could be causing it. Try searching for any dead leaves or roots. I know I have removed plants and found root masses a month later.
