| Do I have time for a fishless cycle?
Hi... I was wondering if I have time for a fishless cycle for my betta tank. My betta could come any day now (ordered it on aquabid) and I think it will come in a week. I have not put the water in the 10 gallon tank yet but I will today

| you may if you can cut off some media, use some gravel and decorations, from an established tank and feed it small pinches of fish food twice a day for a week...but usually it takes much longer....or find some tetra safestart and add that and the media etc, the day you get your betta...do you have a pic of your new baby | |

| Is your other tank cycled? If it is, you can cut a peice of the filter and put it in your new tank along with a handful of gravel from your established tank to help seed it.
Add those the same time you add the fish.
Keep a close eye on your water parameters but it should be almost an instant cycle. |

Oh I have an idea........ can I put a sponge in my cycled tank and when the betta comes I put the sponge in the betta tank or no..

| That would work. But it may not have enough bacteria after only a week to do the trick. You might want to order some TSS online if you don't have any stores nearby that carry it. That's is probably your best bet at this point.

| Two weeks is better, for sure. Stick a bunch of stuff in your current tank if you can! Decor, plants, sponges - anything that will go in the betta tank. You could even put some of the gravel you plan to use in the established tank and then take it out when you set up the betta tank.
Petco and Petsmart don't usually seem to carry TSS, but if you can find a fish-only pet store they might have it. | |
