| using old tank water to water vegtables... husband wife disagreement hi there,
so i don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but we have a fresh water tank that we change about once a week.
we have a gravel vac, and we drain the water in a giant pail. we throw it outside, because we have a holding tank and have to pay to have it pumped out. so we are cautious with our water use and waste.
my husband wants to use the water to nurish our plants and veggies (tomatos, beans etc) he thinks it will be good fertilizer.
all i can think of is eatting fish poo. sick.
is that really safe? should i go with the flow with is, or stop it before it starts? |

| I use my tank water to water my plants. It's very good for them, they like the nitrates. |

| 100% agree with Amanda, I use it all the time on all my plants inside and out. Plants utilize the "poo" and many other nutrients found in the "used" water, try it, I guarantee your tomatoes will still taste like tomatoes...

| Old tank water is very good for plants. Yes, fruits, veggies, and herbs too. Do your veggies currently taste like cow poo? I wouldn't worry about the content of poo in the water. There are higher volumes of other nutrients in the water than poo. Your plants will love you for it, and you will love your veggies. They will be very tasty and nutritious. | Why not for veggies? You wash them before you eat them. Do you think that no animal/bug outside has crawled & who knows what else on them?
We used to use manure for our garden. |

| Using the tank water is a great idea for conserving water. You can use the water for all your plants IMO. I have to ask what do your local farmers and supermarket veggies use in their gardens? You can rest assured they are using nitrates.. fertilizer aka manure as well. I know it sounds icky...
But its been like that for a long time, and I guess we are doing alright by it lol..
Feed your plants.. they will love the added nutrients. |

| Lish, I sympathize for you-we women are supposed to stick together when it comes to the hubby/wife disagreements. But the man is right. To save face, just say, "ok, fine, do your it your way".

| I use a water hose to drain and vacuum my tanks and it runs right out to the garden and if the garden doesn't need it the lawn gets it. It is water conservation at it's best If you do frequent water changes/ or your nitrates are very low there probably isn't a lot of "fertilizer" but the plants will enjoy the water and it beats watering the lawn or the garden with fresh water(cheaper too )

| I agree with everyone, i use the old tank water on all my garden, the lawn, veg, herbs, roses etc...
Its a great way to cut down on using excess water, and the veg grow much bigger and better when i use the fish water as apposed to regular tap water!

| Same here. With 10 tanks it's important to recycle as much of the water as possible during water changes. My water bill would be through the roof otherwise! |

| I would rather eat veggies with fish water than the chicken poo that the people down the road are "harvesting" and fertilizing tobacco and veggies with....
Cow poo is another big one here in "farming land" |

| I use tank water on all of my plants as well. House plants, veggies, herbs all of them. You can actually buy fish emulsion in garden shops for exactly the same reason. I recommend old tank water highly for all plants. |
