Thanks Shawnie... patience I have(I am the mother of a 4year old and 19 month old after all)... time, however, I'm a bit short on... I have a vacation planned in the very near future. I will just be gone for 3 nights, but I want this all worked out before I leave.

I have an extra filter... I just need to get the tub. If I take out all but one of my fish so soon after stabalizing the cycle couldn't that screw it up too? How long should I wait after I get back to 0 ammonia,0 nitrites,10nitrates before I take the fish out to treat? And what is the best way to seed the new filter? I just hope everything stabalizes so that I can treat them before I go on vacation.

wow i remember those crazy days when the girls were younger! yes you do have patience ...lots of them LOL ..but it decreases as they get older hahah....why would you have to take out all your fish but one? just take out the two in question and leave the others....I would even take out the 2 now to treat before you go on vaca...dont you have a couple weeks before you go? seeding the new filter can be put on your other established tank now and let it run before you go away...im hoping things calm down also for you that way you can enjoy your vaca and not be so worried!

There are only 4 in the tank (I was just cycled and starting to add them slowly when the illness bust out on the scene)... and three are infected. Two for sure and one has just a hint. I don't think the red tail has any problems... but since she has her mouth facing downwards it is a bit harder to get a really good look.

I'm leaving my husband in charge of water changes for a couple days while I visit my folks with the girls. I'll see if he has time with work and water changes to hook up another filter and start seeding it so we can Q the sick fish soon.

Thanks,
Jenn

Just an update... the mini cycle is over... levels are back to 0,0,10... the fuzz is still there on two of the fish... but it is just a shadow of it's former self. The fish don't seem to be bothered by it...it's getting better and not worse...and I still don't know what it is... so I think that I'm just going let it be for a while and see what happens. Thanks everyone for all the advice.

Jenn

I was wondering how they were doing, thanks for the update

If they seem happy, I'd let it be. For myself, I find that the hardest thing ever - there's something NOT RIGHT, I want to FIX IT. But if meds have been tried and no improvement was seen, and the fish are not suffering, then TLC and GCW (Good Clean Water) works absolute miracles

Glad to hear your cycle's back on track. Good luck

I'm not usually a good sit-and-wait-it-out kind of person either....but I've been so busy with summer stuff that I haven't had time to do much for them... and it seems to be going better now than when I was fretting and medicating. I'm still checking the water often and I'm not going to add any new fish just yet... but I'm hoping that they will be nice and healthy soon so I can get some new fish for the hubby for father's day. Other than the peach fuzz they look terrific. Their colors have gotten more and more brilliant and they look like they are thriving. They even look like they've grown a little in the month that I've had them.

Yay, Jenn! Keep your patience, you're doing great.
You can always get fish post-Father's Day.
