Very soft tap water

My tank water is testing great (no ammonia, nitrate or nitrite, pH is neutral)...except that it is extremely soft.

Any remedy?

no remedy needed if the fish are doing fine..they will acclimate is there a reason you want to change it?

welcome to fishlore if I missed a welcome earlier!!

do you know how soft exactly it is?

out of curiosity, do you have live plants? how often do you do water changes? if your tank is cycled it's strange that you're not getting a nitrAte reading unless you have live plants or something like that.

I do not have any live plants, just plastic. I'm using the test strips and watched the cycle spikes when I set the tank up with my danios and tetras.

Started with a Marineland 150 biowheel but it was not doing the job. I added an Aquaclear 20 and when the cycle was complete- about 6 weeks - I replaced the Marineland with a second Aquaclear 20.

I'm using ammo-carb in one filter and chemi-pure elite in the other. I've been changing 10% of water twice a week. The test strip result show the color for the softest water possible.

i'd definitely consider getting a liquid test kit instead of the strips, you'll get a much more accurate reading. i use the API freshwater master test kit, as do a lot of members here, and it's great. it's more expensive than the strips, but will last a lot longer.

The Master kits go for around $20?

I'll have to add it to my next on-line order.

http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS...rmastertestkit the best purchase you will ever make ...(other than your fav fish of course)!!

I agree with alex...test strips give false readings more than accurate....you will deffinately have to test with the liquid kit to see where you stand..and your water is probably just fine
