ah green water after using meds !

hope i have put this in the right place will try and cut a long story short !
3 weeks ago i got a new 47g U.K tank used all gravel decorations filter and water from old tank and just topped up with fresh water (old tank was 23g) fish all fine water readings as normal ammonia 0 . nirtite 0. nitrate 5.
all was well except one molly got a bit of fungus so put her in Q tank and treated with myxazin it contains dye which having never used it before didnt worry me , have completed the meds and molly is back with chums no problem but i cant get my water in Q tank clear i have run carbon for 48 hrs and it still looks like pea soup! I did a 50% water change with no effect the water in Q tank reads the same as 47g (i use liquid test ) . the Q tank is 17g(U.K) is this the meds or is a coincidence and i now have an alge problem or bacterial bloom ?. the Q tank is an established tank (9 month ) and i have never had a problem with it . it is rarely used as a Q tank as i dont often have poorley fish but i use it for new fish or fry or if nothing else i put the man mollys in there to stop having millions of them (bless them) its been green for nearly a week and and i am very depressed about it as the other two tanks look crystal clear and other than meds i have not done anything different . all tanks are weekly water changed 25% . sorry it a long post and confusing hope someone can help ! thanks

If it changed right after using the meds, I would assume it was caused by the medication. Some meds turn the water a blue others a green. IF it is an algae problem or what we call 'green water' syndrome, you may have to do what I did. I tried many water changes and it just wouldnt go away . I ended up having to black out the whole tank. I covered it with dark plastic and kept it covered for five days. When I took the plastic off, the water was back to being crystal clear. But at that point I had moved all the fish to another tank while I did this and the fish were not affected or disturbed by the darkness. It has been recommended that you can do the black out with the fish in the tank as well, but I prefered not to.
For cloudy whitish water I have used API accu-clear and it really did the job wonderfully of bringing the water back to crystal clarity.

If the water changed color due to the meds, it wont hurt your fish. Even if the green water was due to algae it wouldnt hurt them either.
Best of luck and hope that it clears up for you. Using carbon in your filter may help as well, after you are done medicating the fish.
