welcome to fishlore !!

If you fill in your aquarium info it will help us know where you are and whats going on with the cycle..

no one can tell you how long it will last as it varies from size of tank to methods of cycling...

EDIT: I moved your thread out of the cichlid forum into the auqarium water forum as it will get more repsonses for your water issue

ok, not sure where to fill that out but here is my tank. 180 gallon oceanic, eheim 2180, eheim ecco, filstar xp3. I added some large frontosas last week and I think I cleaned my tank too well before their arrival. I have been adding stability for a week and use prime to lock up ammonia and chloramines from my tap water. I have really high chloramine in my tap so my ammonia readings are off the scale. I did a 30 % water change last night and woke up to this. It has been slightly cloudy all week. I increased my airation and i think my fish are allright, but I cant see them

how was the tank cycled prior to adding the frontosas? do you know your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrate readings? thats a must so we know where you stand in the cycle..if it wasnt cycled to begin with, the cloudyness is normal for a bacteria bloom..and it if was cycled, the adding of the big frontosas has probably put you into a mini cycle by overloading the bacteria...either way, we need some readings to know where to go from here....

i did a small water change and the ammonia is 4 nitrites 0 nitrates 5. I agree its a minicycle, but I have never had one this bad. I wonder if the stability overloaded my tank with bacteria. I use prime to lock up ammonia with waterchanges. btw if you want to see my fish cam you can see it here

As far as I am aware the bacteria in Stability are terestrial bacterian and so they will be competing with the aquatic nitrosomas in the tank.

4 is very high mind so 50% daily PWC with prime, is what I would be doing
I would stop using that and stick with PWC and prime, things should clear up in a couple of days.

Alternatively you could boost the cycle by putting Tetra SafeStart in the tank, that at least, has the right bacterium and seems to work.
