Here is the scenerio:
I have a heavily planted tank and dosing with flourish excel. My
pH in the morning is 7.2 and in the afternoon it is 7.6. I believe this is due to a low KH in my water.
GH is low as well. The plants are using up the Co2 in my water and when its gone they begin taking out minerals to compensate which lowers the KH even more. Hence the shifting PH.
I do plan on going to injected Co2 but not at this moment. I will run a PH controller when I do.
With a high PH I cant exactly add crushed corals without raising the PH further which I dont want to do as I am keeping Cardinal Tetras. I would like to see the PH down around 6.8-7 but until I go injected I don't see that happening.
So is there a way to increase KH and stabilize the PH fluctation without raising the PH? (Beyond going
RO and making my own KH?
IS this type of fluctation bad for my fish? I have read conflicting thoughts regarding whether PH shifts or just KH shifts are bad for Fauna.
Unless I am missing something I have three options...
1. Get rid of plants
2. Get rid of fish
3. Go injected
OK maybe 4- Just let it be
Thoughts?
