Tannin question. not the UV kind. :)

Ok. As far as I've found, tannins are ok for all fish, they just lower pH correct? Angels, GBRs, rasboras, cories, and goldfish are ok with it? And I hear tetras are supposed to prefer it. Sorry to be brief, using my blackberry.

I would say not ALL fish like it..It wouldn't be good for mbuna's or allot of other African cichlids.

right. i was gonna put that the chiclids wouldn't be good candidates for tannic water, but got tired of typing. but the fish i listed above should all be fine with it?

blackberry FTW. and you don't have to be stuck with a crappy carrier. well, they are crappy in my area.

i've had mine for about 2 weeks, and it's pretty amazing. i never knew what you could do with the things.

verizon was runnin a buy one get one sale, so my girl and i picked them up. storms. pretty cool.

anyway, thanks for the tannin info. still tryin to get my water to clear. just hazy. got a aquaclear for a 55 all foam media (only been on for like 5 days) and a 30g with foam, carbon, and zeolite.

3 amazon swords, anubias nana.

can't really figure it out. and i can't really justify buying the master test kit now. should i get the test strips? are they a total waste? and should i get the ones for nitrate/nitrites? or ammonia? or should i even bother? or just have petsmart test it?

with fish , you NEED a master test kit to know where your tank stands...it lets you know when water changes are needed and how much...the cloudy is probably a bacteria bloom and you so need to know the ammonia and nitrite reading as it could kill the fishies .id return the blackberry and get an API master liquid test kit

easy now.

it isn't really a MUST. i kept all my fish with no test kits. bred angels with no test kits. it's a matter of knowing your tank and what you are doing. but i agree with you, i SHOULD have one. it's really only handy when i have troubles. i don't have issues doing the maintenance, it's my zen moment. i do need to establish a benchmark regardless. so maybe i'll pony up the cash and get one. any idea how much they are at petsmart?
