Nurse/Q Tank blues...

So I decided to run a test to check all the parameters of my tanks last night and got a really weird reading off my nurse tank. The ammonia level was up as well as the Nitrates, but no nitrites. The tank is established and hasnt shown anything but nitrates for months and now all of a sudden ammonia?

I recently did treat the tank with maracyn-two for a fry that was ill and the parameters immediately following the treatment checked out. All that has been in the tank since then (about 4 weeks) are a bunch of pond snails (Any one want any? lol ). I cant figure out why the tank would start a mini cycle. Should I keep some kind of fish in there to help balance the cycle or are the snails enough to keep it balanced? Any ideas?

the maracyn 2 could have done just enough that you wouldn't notice it right away, especially if you put the fish back into your main tank immediately afterwards and decreased the bioload. i'd keep an eye on it, the snails should be enough to keep it cycled but they're also sensitive to parameters so you should probably do a water change.

Im not too worried about them, they are more pests than anything to me. The ammonia was gone yesterday evening so I assume you are right. Nice to know.
