I am raising a school of nine juveniles Silver Dollars, roughly within one to one and half inch "diameter". Once they reach a safe size to be with Oscars, they will be moved.
They are housed in a Perfecto Breeding 30 tank (30"Lx18"Wx12"H).
I am using
a) around 20g of Fluval peat fiber (way less than recommended amount of 70g, to be on the safe side and do this slowly).
b) a mixture of 1:2 R/O processed drinking water to tap source water,
c) adding extra humic acids, tannins and "other beneficial organics" which do not alter
pH nor color water (
API Amazon Extract, South American Cichlid) which I use in my Oscars-Severums-Convicts tank.
d) and three mid-large size Indian Almond Tree leaves (abundant in my city, soaked them in boiling water for 5 minutes, then suddenly dumped them in cold water to take pathogens away).
e) removed activated charcoal since I want the tea-colored water to be present.
Note: c) and d) are regular maintenance in my Oscars-Severums-Convicts tank, the Silver Dollar final destination. I do use activated charcoal in that tank since it is still housing 5 sub-adults Kenyi. I keep pH in that tank at 7.4; once they leave that tank, I will aim at pH 6.8 with at least 2.5
DKH.
Readings before adding Indian Almond Tree leaves and around 20g of Peat Fiber (yesterday)
pH 7.5
3.5 dKH
4.0 dGH
