Dechlorinator

How long does it take for a dechlorinator to remove chlorines and chloramines?

It's almost instant. Just mix it in and you're ready to go!

If you use prime it will work within minutes......Not sure about the other brands...I always let it sit a while just to be safe.....

On second thought... yes, I usually do let it sit a few minutes before I put it into the tank. No reason to risk it! But I wouldn't be too worried about it if I didn't wait very long.

Ok, thanks, I'm not sure which brand but i stir it and let it sit for a few minutes.

If you leave the water out overnight, do you still need to use the dechlorinator?

Yes, at least if you aren't sure whether your water has chlorinates in it. The chlorine will disappate, but chlorinates won't.

i think letting it sit will remove cholorine, but not chloramine

Leaving the water sit overnight is not going to solve the problem....It is very important to use a water conditioner unless you are using an RO system or distilled water.....

What if i use reverse osmosis water or rainwater? I heard you shouldn't add it directly, fish are used to some minerals in the water.

rainwater can pick up some pollutants in the air You have to do something to it before adding it, i suppose

I use rainwater in my tanks, i add nothing to it, do nothing to it, just add it in. Rainwater would have as many pollutants as ground water to be honest...

I know which one i prefer to drink
