Cockroach in my tank??

Hi,

A week ago. I was doing a water change for my 15 gallon tank and I found a dead/drowned cockroach in the water. I don't know how it got in or why? At that time, I didn't have fish in the tank yet. A few days after that, I added my fish.

So my question is, it's a cockroach. Will my water be effected or something? Do I have to worry about anything? Will my fish be OK?

Did you do a water change after fishing it out?
Unless you you use a whole lot of pestisides in the house, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

It will likely not infect the water, if that's what you're thinking. Cockroaches are actually pretty clean animals. We consider them dirty partly due to the fact that they are insects. If left in the water, however, it will break down into ammonia.

I agree, there shouldn't be a huge problem UNLESS you have roach hotels/chemicals that the roach got to before getting in the tank.. Pesticides can be hugely devastating. (The last speaker at the Atlanta club is a California Environmental Toxicologist and said that dog flea collars, for example, when first being developed had such a toxic chemical make-up that 1 part per Billion could wipe out a POND full of fish, but the dosage of chemicals have sense been "watered down" so to speak.)

Yeah, I did. I don't really use pestisides because they don't really work. The insects and bugs would just keep coming.
