HELP.water problems.
Can anyone help please.
I have a 190 litre tank which was brackish but after several months of green water many water changes and sadly the loss of my shark and momo i gave up with the brackish and started from scratch with just tropical.I again ended up with green water again within 1 week of restarting.I got some algae killer from the local pet store, blacked out the tank and hoped nature would take its course.Unfortunately not no change.
I have since put in a brand new filter started from scratch again 1 week ago and now the tank is turning a slightly white cloudy look. This has been gradually getting worse over the last 4 days.I have tried almost every available product to clear up this water problems that i have had for the last 4 months.,
I desperately need help before the wife throws out the tank.
Can anyone help please.

Hi haytrev...everytime you start over and start from scratch, you start a new cycle...with cloudyness, its probably a bacteria bloom...can you get us the tank readings??

hi heytrev your readings are slightly high but thats to be expected when starting a new cycle ,let the water mature for at least 2 to3 weeks and keep testing it .go to your pet store and get some bacteria booster for the filter that should speed up the process good luck

Yes I agree with the others. Please stop changing the water so much it will only make your fish sick and you will probably loos many of them . Every time you change the water it will start a new cycle and the water will turn cloudy for several days 2-3 then it will start to ger clearer. Make sure you get a Pleco or 2 to take care of your alge problem. Make sure if do do add the pleco that there is plenty of alge for them to eat if not at the beggining you can feed them some alge waffers sold at petco or any pet supply store, but it seems you have no alge roduction problems from what you said. Try not to add too many chimicals to the water. I would sudjest just leaving the water alone for now if you need to change it due to over alge growth again then once you change it don't add the other chemicals again only conditioner as needed. Only change the water 20% ever 2-3 days only 20% not all. This will help you alot. Help the agly problem and green water by using a clean paper towel and run it up and down the wall sof your tank every other day making sure you don't stir up the poopie from the bottom of the tank, this will only produre high amonia level and kill your fish.
good luck go to www.aquariumfish.net for all your fish questions it helps me alot.

I disagree..changing the water is a must..its part of having healthy fish...theres not alot of benificial bacteria in the water...its in the filter media, gravel, decorations etc...I do agree not alot of chemicals are needed...and yes only tap water conditioner if you have city water..algae is sometimes from over natural sunlight, or over feeding those lil fishies...paper towels arent always good as they have perfumes in them...just run your hand over the glass to clean it...if you have poopies in your tank, enough where you are worried about stirring them up, it should be vacuumed...ammonia will be there whether or not the poopies are stirred up or not..you should be doing daily water changes until the tank is cycled, and then at least once a week after...goodluck!

At the moment there are no fish in my tank.Put them back to the local pet shop due to the ongoing water problems. As it stands the only thing added to the tank since i re-started it has been water conditioner nothing else.
The water has a white cloudy look to it and has been slowly getting worse over the last 4 days.

Is your water still getting green?? Do you have it in direct sunlight? That can cause your water to turn green unless you have a uv sterilizer.

Its a bacteria bloom..without fish, make sure you feed the tank twice a day with a lil bit of fish food..the good bacteria need it..if those readings are correct, you are cycled...how long have you been doing the cycle and what test kit are you using? ...its normal to go through the cloudyness...

Is you filter big enough or even bigger than reccommended? that usually speeds it right along to have more than needed..now that you are cycled, id do a 50-60 % water change and of course treat the tap water with a conditioner...alot of us like prime...and a few days you should be stylin! sometimes putting a plate or saucer in the tank to pour the water on, stops things from stirring up anymore....

Yes the filter is the recommened size for the tank i have.I use a saucer to prevent disturbing the gravel.I will do a 50% water change later and hopefully this will cure the problems. If not i think the wife will have it thrown out by the end of the week.
thanks for your help,
 Trevor
