Find out about my city's water supply parameters?

I've tested my tap water before and the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates were always at zero and the pH was at 7.8. The GH was from 24-26dGH and the KH was from 12-15dKH. It's been this way all through last year.

I don't know what made me test the water again but a few days ago, I had tested the pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates(I ran out of the GH/KH test kit) and we now have 7-8ppm for nitrates, ammonia and nitrites are still at zero and the pH has dropped down to 7.0!

What I would like to know is how to I go about finding out what my city's water parameters are including things like chlorine, chloramine, etc. as well as when they made this change? I just hope it's not temporary because this water will be better for my betta!

p.s. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. If it is, please move it.

You could call the correct department at your city hall and ask them what makes up tap water in parts per million. Also, this time of year nitrates will be higher because of the farmers using fertilizers on their farm.

Thank you. I had done that today and I now know why our water in our area is a bit different then usual.

There is a lot of construction going on in the area where I live and the underground source that we normally get our water from has been "turned off" so to speak because of the construction so we are getting it from a different source which is why the pH is lower then normal.

It will only stay like that until the end of summer. I was hoping that it was a permanent change!
