This morning there was a bunch of flakey white stuff floating around in my water. It looks like little pieces of toilet paper floating around. My tank is currently cycling and its been about 2.5 weeks. The stuff seems like some sort of film that came loose from inside my filters tube. I tried scooping some of if with my net but it basically disintergrated. Any thoughts what this is. I'm cycling with some danios. The tank is currently going through a nitrite spike. No ammonia, only trace amounts of nitrates.

i don't think so. This wasn't flake floating aroung. some of the pieces were rather large, a little smaller than a dime. it looked like there was some sort of builup that peeled off a tube or something. The fish were eating some of it. Doesn't seem to have done anything to them yet. I'm still puzzled.
